Default Baratza Vario

So I'm thinking about upgrading my Baratza Virtuoso to a Baratza Vario. The Vario would be used for anything but espresso, but will probably be used occasionally for espresso as well. Anyone out there using the Vario? This grinder is probably overkill for press/vac/drip, but overkill is my middle name. LOL

I used a Vario and then used a Preciso a couple days later - I could have picked either one (no BS or wallet waving - just trying to be helpful) and I went with the Preciso - equal espresso and better drip and press performance. Neither feel very durable IMHO...

So it sounds like it would be a push for moving up from the Virtuoso, or at least not a $350 upgrade. Now I'm thinking of the new manual grinder from Orphan Espresso. I'm sure you've read about it on other forums.

BTW, I stumbled across yours posts over on HB.

Let me know how the manual one goes if you get it. I have been wanting a good manual one but have no idea what to go for. Good luck on the hunt!

This new manual grinder from Orphan Espresso has a huge conical burr set. It's called the Pharos. Google it and you will find it on their website. The grind adjustment is a bit funky though.

Wow, thanks. That thing is a work of art! Not some flimsy little thing either. Looks like a tank.

Wow, that is impressive.

It would be an excellent conversation starter.

I've got a $100 in my Paypal account that is just burning a hole in my pocket. LOL It's either the coffee grinder, or I get my wife the Kindle touch she wants. Decisions, decisions.....

Used a Vario yesterday for drip (rare) and the grind quality is/was superb. Easily on par with the Bunn LPG that I have alot of experience with. Next time I brew a batch I will take a few pics of the soaked grounds/filter and post them. There was absolutely no dust sludge at all.
