Default New Manual Grinder

I'm looking for a new manual grinder (as in not an antique). Anyone have a suggestion?

The only manual grinders I can think of that are decent are either:

Hario Skerton
or
Hario 'Mini Mill Slim'

They will run you between $30-40.

I've personally never used one, but I have a friend who swears by the Skerton.

I have also heard of grinders for hikers and mountain climbers. May want to look at places like those stores you will find interesting products

Search - Mountain Equipment Co-op (MEC)

This is the coffee products from Mountain Equipment Coop in Canada. Lots of interesting products including a small portable grinder at the bottom

Depends on what the hand mill is to be used for. The newer mills seem to be good for drip, etc. but can't manage espresso very good or for very long without parts wear. Nothing beats the old school build quality of the KyM, PeDe, Trosser, etc. mills as they are far superior in build quality, adjustability, grind consistency, etc. Those interested can check Orphan Espresso often as they find older mills, refurbish them and grade/price accordingly. That way you know exactly what you're buying and not taking a shot in the dark.

I'm a huge fan of hand mills and bought a nice 50+ year old KyM Turkish style mill from Orphan to use with my Cremina lever about 2 years ago. Perfect match and the grind quality is superb.
