Default Perfect Grinder for French Press

My experiences with my cheap blade grinder (will add model later) has nearly turned me off using my french press. So I'd like to try and find a grinder to win me back. I'm looking for inexpensive, but for purposes of the thread don't exclude expensive ones (maybe just note price range).

Any suggestions? I'm looking for links or make/model

I've heard really nice things about the Bodum C-Mill grinder. It goes for $20-25 and generally gets good reviews.

My current one is a Mr. Coffee IDS77 (well i think that's the model #, looked up a pic on-line and it looks like mine). And i guess it goes w/o saying I do not recommend it unless you're using a drip.

This is the grinder that I use for French Press/Drip. I'd highly recommend at least a Baratza for your grinding needs. It'll do everything except espresso. Their refurb units are great, because they give you a full warranty with them.

Now for $150 refurb, how much of a jump is it to get a grinder that will do espresso?

A Rancilio Rocky will grind for espresso. You can also keep an eye on Craigslist in your area. Mazzer grinders pop up pretty often and you can get one of those for roughly $300. With the Mazzer you'll never need another grinder. Most good coffee shops use Mazzer grinders.

A site I was looking at (from a link from this forum) recommended a Bodum Antigua (though it seemed to be the low end recommendation). But at $80 the price is much closer to right. I won't be spending over 100 on a grinder that can't do espresso, and I'm not spending 300 on one that will, at least no time soon, and there doesn't seem to be much of a middle ground. Anyway, anyone use the Antigua?

I had an Antigua years ago. I ended up giving it to my friend Bob when I got a Mazzer. Bob doesn't use it for espresso, so he's been very happy with it. There is a way to have the Antigua grind finer than it's factory setting. The cheat is over on Coffeegeek. Honestly though, the Antigua is not ideal for espresso.

eric, go to the link I posted above and click the Products tab. Click on the Maestro. They sell refurb Maestro's for $70. That grinder would be GREAT for drip/press pot. It would be serviceable for espresso too. Baratza makes some very high end grinders (look at the Vario), so they have a very good track record for making excellent grinders. That would be my personal recommendation for budget grinders.
