You only have to clean it every couple of months? Is the static build up not that bad?

I could clean it more often, but I've got enough other things going on. Static seemed to diminish after the first year or so.

That's interesting. I wonder why it did that? I've been running my burr everyday for a year and it still gets a lot of build up.

I've had mine for a few years, and it will get build-up, but not that bad. It also doesn't seem to stick inside the chute as much anymore. I always give the outside a little rap with the back of my hand before pulling out the basket.

I do too, but the build up is stuck pretty good. I think it needs time.

I have a MACAP MC4 grinder. It is doserless so I grind directly into a stainless bowl. I have a digital scale by the grinder. I measure out the correct amount of beans, grind them and dump into the press. I would never grind coffee to store. Some of the delicate flavours are lost within minutes of grinding no matter how you store the grinds.

Even with a basic blade grinder, figure out the amount of beans and only grind as you use them.

I had been using a low end Cuisinart burr mill for the past several years. It produced a usable grind, but it was somewhat inconsistent and the coarse setting was still too fine IMO. The Cuisinart died recently. Basically, it was just completely worn out. I have replaced it with a Baratza Maestro Plus which arrived today. I'll post back with an evaluation soon. I like what I see so far and especially so considering the very reasonable price. I have a blade grinder for a backup and travel, but the grind it produces is very non-uniform. It will do in a pinch, but so will a blender.

You'll be happy with the Baratza. I use a Baratza Virtuoso for anything except espresso. It works well for vac/french press/drip.

I use a Baratza Vario for everything other than espresso. A Virtuoso makes more sense than a Vario if you aren't going to use the Vario for espresso, in my opinion. The price and the size are right for most people. I absolutely love my Baratza Vario.

Update on the Baratza. I've been using the new mill for about a week now and I am very pleased with it. This mill produces a much more uniform grind with substantially reduced fines resulting in much less sediment in the cup. I like that it runs at low rpm's for quieter operation. I was once skeptical about how much difference a mill could make in the end product. I no longer harbor any doubt in that regard.
