Default Will Shops Grind for you?

Anyone know if you take your beans to a local place whether or not they'll grind them for you? I've read a lot on here about poor machines and it seems that could be avoided if you ran down to your local place and asked them to do it. Just a thought.

Never tried, call them.

...but isn't it pretty much universally recommended to grind your beans RIGHT before brewing? Maybe I'm wrong, but wouldn't having a fresh (but less than optimal) grind be better than having it perfectly ground but stale?

Yes, but people around here don't listen to sound coffee advice.

I agree. I think if your going to do that you should just buy pre-ground beans. It would save a lot of time.

Yah but it's not the same when you home roast them. I did buy a grinder and a whirley popper around the same time.

If you're buying the beans there, then most shops will grind them for you. I don't know what their attitude is about grinding beans you bought from someone else's store would be, but mine would be negative.

And with that aside, I would highly recommend only grinding your beans immediately before you brew. The taste difference is noticeable.

I'll grind for free, but highly recommend it be in smaller increments in order to maximize freshness. I don't bother trying to talk people into buying a grinder because some just don't care. If they inquire about it then I'm ready to talk grinders...
