Finally, a conversation that peaks my interest I'm all for Ethiopian fare, with Sidamo being my absolute favorite for drip coffee. I'm sure it'd be killer in a press as well.

Mike, it probably depends on the greens you're getting or of course the roasting process itself. Our Sidamo always has very even roast qualities. Nothing discernible to my eyes anyway.

Awhile back our roaster had made the switch to Harrar due to a seasonal shortage and they forgot to change the SKU. Label was showing it as being Sidamo, but I could see/smell/taste alot of difference between the Harrar and Sidamo. IMO Sidamo is much more flavorful and definitely has more florals present.

I've always had some color variation with Harrar, but last night was the worst it's ever been. There was a lot of chaffe to these beans also. I will try that Sidamo with my next order.

Of all the info/descriptions I've received from our roaster regarding Ethiopians, Sidamo is where it's at for me. Better than the Harrar (based on experience) and according to him it's a bit better than the Yirgacheffe. Similar growing regions, but different tasting notes. Of course opinions/taste vary.

That's the thing Rich, according to who? General tasting parameters from the masses, some review you read, etc?

True, True there Spyder. I'm a cigar smoker in addition to being a coffee freak and I can find you a $3 cigar that will taste much better than what the so called "experts" rank very high. Taste is subjective and what I like may absolutely not agree with your palate. With cigars we alway say 'smoke what you like'. The same goes with coffee, drink what YOU like.

I bought Yirgacheffe beans to roast after hearing so much positive about them. They were very interesting with a floral taste but not my fav. I could see how they got so popular.
