Default Roasting Room

I have been working on a room/office for my roasting work. The room I am remodeling is a 10×10 foot small bedroom in the house. I painted the room as well as putting in a hardwood floor. The first step in transforming it into a room for roasting is the addition of a range hood.

Ikea was closing out a 24″ hood. As most stoves are 30 or 30″ wide, a 24″ hood is only useful in a compact kitchen with a small range. For my roasting it was perfect. The best part was the hood was on sale for $149 (Cdn) from a regular price of $599.

Once the area is finished I will move the work table back into place and take a picture of it. I can't wait to create my first roast from there

I currently have a HotTop. I added probes for computer reading the bean and drum temperatures.

That's going to be nice. Can't wait to see the finished product.

The hood is done. I moved a desk into place to try it out. Just did my first roast. The vent worked like a charm. The window to the left can be opened so I can let fresh air in and then vent it with the smoke. I can see the screen and computer need to be mounted on the wall to free up space. This is not the final counter but is the right height.

I envy you. I roast outside in my Gazebo. I am not allowed to roast inside.

I started roasting on my front porch, actually just the other side of that window in the picture. It was great in the summer but as it cooled off the roaster could not keep up with the cool air. I had to move inside.

Then I took over much of the kitchen. Returning the kitchen space was the benefit for my wife of me getting my own space. I do admit you can spell the roaster in the office, mind you it is a smell I like

Jim - I drive through Winston Salem when I visit my son in Raleigh. Nice area

Default Getting things set up

I just finished a Columbia KVW decaf roast an it looks nice. Just connected the roast computer up and using it now. It is still not connected to the roaster.

Wireless is going to be a challenge. My house is a long ranch style and the router is a distance from here. I had hoped to put the computer under the desk but the signal was too weak. Such is life.

This weekend we are doing preparation for the next contractor. The spiral staircase is coming out to the basement and straight stairs going in. I have to remove some electrical circuits and disconnect a shower. All in prep for their work.

On Sunday we are going to pick up the cabinets for here. That will be nice. This desk is tiny.

The just roasted coffee is cool. Time to pack it up and go make a cup. I will have to wat for tomorrow for this batch as fresh roasted coffee should rest for at least 8 hours. (usually more)

Went this weekend to the store to buy the kitchen cabinets. Ended up getting a garage organizer from Black & Decker. It has a black and stainless look so works nicely. The top cabinet is up and one of the lower cabinets is mid assembly. I'll post pictures soon

I wanted a "tech" look and these providedthat.
