Default Tracking Roasting Temps

I recently moved up to a BBQ roaster and I've been using a wireless temp probe, which is mounted on the inside of the lid. The BBQ grill I use is modified for roasting. It has a dampner across the burners to distribute heat more evenly. It also has sheet metal welded on the inside of the lid, but I still desire better temperature monitoring.
I was thinking that if I could just get a probe mounted on the inside of the drum, that would provide me much better temperature results. The problem is that there are no probes which don't have wires attached to them. At least none that I'm aware of. Now, the drum I use is an RK drum and if I thought about buying this setup Miniature Wireless Thermocouple Connectors for use with a type K thermocouple. I'd still have to deal with the wire to the thermocouple though. I am definitely not the tinkering type, so I thought I'd post here. Maybe one of you guys can offer some ideas for getting this probe into the middle of a rotating drum?
