Default Caramel Machiatto

I probably butchered the spelling of "Machiatto", but what exactly is in this drink? This is about the only thing coffee that my wife will drink, so it would be nice to be able to make them at home. I know it includes caramel sauce and milk/espresso. What are the ratios though? Spyder, I'm sure you know what's in this drink, so give it to me bro! My wife orders it 'upside down', whatever that means. Is this strictly a *$ (that would be star bucks) invention?

It is indeed a Charbux invention as they seem to bastardize pretty much everything that has been traditional for decades. When I make my version of it when people order by name, it consists of the following... a double shot, a fair amount (1 oz.~) of thick/rich caramel sauce (not to be confused with syrup) and the proper amount of textured milk to finish the cup. Then, it can be topped with whipped cream and caramel drizzle if the customer wants.

First time I had a customer order it I made a "true" caramel macchiato and handed it to her in a little 4 oz. sample cup. I think her comment was "that's it?!?" I said "that's what you ordered" and she proceeded to tell me how "they" do it. Can't remember now, but I'm sure I made their version of it for her to ensure 100% satisfaction.

Even though I go against the grain and will bend the "rules" that are cast in stone, I do like to hover around traditional coffee values simply because I respect coffee for all it has to offer and hate to see something completely bent out of proportion.

So you're saying I can't order that new 42oz. latte thing from you?? You know that new size that *$ just came out with?? LOL

I can definitely respect that from someone who honors tradition. At the end of the day though, your business still has to turn a profit, so I also understand bending the rules a bit.

Thank you for that recipe. I'm going to buy some caramel sauce down at Texas Coffee Traders and give it a go this weekend. I'll let you know how it turns out.

I'd never offer a drink that large. People should stop and think about the calories in something like that... Our sizes are 12 and 16 oz. Lots of people request larger sizes, but I simply tell them that is as far as I'm pushing tradition.

Yeah, I find that the 16oz. cup is perfect for my taste. Anything larger and it's cold by the time I get to that last 1/4 cup and I don't like cold coffee.
