Default Cream

I was going to make a poll of this, but I can't find where to make a poll - is it turned off for this forum?

I was wondering what people put in their coffee, creamer wise.

-powdered
-milk skim
-milk (1%)
-milk (2%)
-milk whole (3.5%)
-canned evaporated milk (8%)
-half & half (10.5%)
-light cream (18%)
-heavy cream (30-40%)

-non dairy creamer (Coffee Mate, etc...)

-flavored creamers
(personally, I don't use flavored creamers, can't stand them, so I don't know much about them or the available varieties to list them here)

Over time, I've stepped through;

-whole milk
-1% milk
-half & half
-light cream

Now, I'd rather drink it black than use milk. I gotta have my light cream! I eat pretty healthy otherwise, but I will not compromise on my coffee creamer, damnit!!

If it's my coffee or good coffee, then I drink it black. If it's shit coffee, like Starbucks/Folgers/McDonalds then I have to add some sugar to mask the bitter finish. Cream in coffee is sacrilege.

I drink black mostly. I like a touch of cream, but found it was bothering my stomach. No high fat dairy = no heartburn. Glad it was not the coffee!

Soy milk is amazing in some coffees... great nutty flavor

Why?

You're not the first person I've come across with the opinion that cream ruins coffee. What exactly about the coffee does the cream mask/destroy that makes it such a horrible addition?

Most people I know add cream/sugar to mask bad coffee. If you're drinking the best coffee available, then wouldn't you want to taste the coffee? Cream/Milk is heavy and coats your tongue. It also destroys the flavor of the coffee. Taste is subjective though, so if it's good to you, then by all means keep on trucking! LOL

If you think I'm bad, go over to coffeegeek.com and read some threads over there. It'll give the term "coffee nut" a whole new meaning. LOL

Im no coffee expert by any means, but think about it. When you put cream in your coffee doesnt it completely change the taste? Its like two different drinks in my opinion. So I could see how some "purists" would think that creamer is the devil. It masks a lot of the flavor

oh, and I use half & half...on the rare occasions that I do add cream

I am a half&half and sugar guy.

The folks at the coffee shop just cringe.

I got used to the non-dairy creamers, don't use much...just enough to lighten it up a bit and sweeten it a tad. To be honest, I haven't had REAL good coffee in the house for a while...the ND creamers help a lot IMO...

I should head over to coffeegeek.com and stir up some trouble.. heh heh. The way I see it, to each his own. I absolutely LOVE my coffee. With cream in it. It's how my dad drank it, it's how I started drinking it and it's how I enjoy it most.

Like BigMike said, whatever works for you! I don't think less of mountain bikers that don't have clipless pedals on their bikes or beer drinkers that don't brew their own and drink from the bottle... why do the self-proclaimed coffee "purists" gotta be hatin' ??
