I guess I'm almost alone on this one then. Hmmm. Maybe I'm using cheap paper?

I can, and with restaurant coffee I can usually taste the paper.

If you like the convenience of a drip machine why not just get a mesh filter, usually have a gold finish.

That's what I'm doing now, but I've noticed they wear out over time. Also it's so much easier to just pull out the paper and rinse, call me lazy, cause that's at the heart of this.

Tsk-tsk Austin. Coffee taste quality demands the extra minute or two to bang the grinds out of the gold-mesh filter and rinse the filter. After years of using the gold-mesh filter (I would buy a new one every other year) I switched to the french press. Coffee just tastes better. I clean out the previous days coffee grinds from my french press while the water is heating up in the kettle. I have enough time to clean the press, grind the beans, and wrap my press in a little jacket (a dish-towel to help retain some heat) while the kettle is heating up the water. Yeah, call me crazy. I just want the best and it's worth the time invested in the morning when I sit down for those 3 cups. I tell everyone I meet to switch from paper to gold-mesh filter and they will improve their coffee experience. If they have more time, I'll talk their ear off about home roasting coffee or using a french press.

I rinse the mesh thoroughly, it just just takes longer. Keep in mind before anything, comes coffee. I find the less difficult something is the more I like it before I'm awake.
