Default Tampers

While I own very nice equipment, I'm not one to spend a lot on tampers. I've bought mine off ebay for $25-30 dollars. Some tampers run up to $100 plus, especially the ones made with exotic wood handles, etc. So do you go the frugal route, or spend some coin on your tamper?

I just have a cheap one right now that we found at Ross's on sale. Nostalgia has some real nice ones he has made and thinking about selling.

I go cheap for now. I like what Nostalgia has done to the point where I'm thinking about getting the lathe I inherited down from the attic.

Hi Susan, not sure I understood your question. Are you asking if a cheap tamper can be found? I'm going to sell a tamper (probably $30) I have. It has a rosewood colored handle and a stainless steel piston. It's a 58mm tamper, which will fit most commercial (E61) machines.

I like industrial, something that will last decades and never wear out. Bought my 58mm tamper from Vaneli's for about $35 and shipping. Is one piece stainless and weighs over 20 oz. Just like this one...

Solid Stainless Steel Tamper

For use with my Cremina lever at home I had one of those double enders not being used, it's 55mm on one end and 50mm on the other. I needed something around 49mm~ so I hand sanded it to fit my Cremina double basket like a glove and works great. A good 49.5mm tamper specifically for the Cremina basket is quite expensive...
