Question recommendations....

Actually, I have found good internal cleaners, but I was wondering if I could get some suggestions for what common stuff works well for removing built-up coffee oils stains, such as those I get on the plastic drip trays of my automatic machine. I'd rather not use up my calfiza on this...

How about making a poultice of baking soda or if bleaching isn't a concern, you could use a powdered bleach like Ajax or Comet. Just mix with water to make a paste, cover the stain, and let it work for an hour or so.

Urnex recently launched a new product called Full Circle that is almost as effective as other detergents such as Cafiza, JoeGlo, but is as close to 100% natural as you will ever find.

There is also a product called Brew Rite that can be found at places like WalMart and is may work in your case. It's basically sodium bicarbonate and can be used for mild descaling, cleaning exterior parts, etc.

Do you have any experience with either?

Oh yeah, for many years when I had one of those steam "espresso" machines I used the Brew Rite. It can be used for general cleaning, descaling, etc. Once I stepped it up a few notches on the home machine level I started with the more specific cleaners. I've used JoeGlo, Cafetto Evo, Cafiza and Full Circle, which are all backflush/cleaning detergents. All work equally well and most have similar ingredients. Full Circle is touted as being very natural and close to or at 100% biodegradeable. Not saying you could drink the stuff, but it's as natural as it gets for detergents.

For descaling there are many brands available, but plain citric acid works great, doesn't require a ton of rinsing and works quickly. It's not hard to find online and a little goes a long way. I think I use around 1 TSP per LITER of water. The fastest descaler I've used before was durgol, but it's expensive. It works similar to citric acid, but has an added ingredient that really accelerates the action.
