Coffee, Cholesterol, and Health
The Berkeley Wellness Letter (newsletter) published a nice little article on the health effects of coffee. Some brewing systems bring good health benefits while others do not.
In general coffee is pretty good for us. Careful how you prepare it though.
My favorite part of the article is, "All coffee, no matter how it’s brewed, contains a complex mix of phytochemicals, many of which are potentially beneficial. In fact, coffee is the No. 1 source of antioxidants in the U.S. diet, because we drink so much of it."
My grandfather always said, "Coffee is medicine." He was right.

I am not concerned about the amount of cholesterol I get from my espresso.
I'm not claiming that it's nothing to be concerned about. Only that I, personally, am not concerned.
There are so many other things to be concerned about.

Hey Tom!
I mainly drink straight espresso so I fall into that group of people who drink unfiltered.

I have read a few papers on this subject and there are two compounds which elevate cholestrol. I dont remember the chemical names, but bith of these compounds are filtered out using paper filters. My cholesterol is just a tad high, but it is more likely the cheeseburgers, pizza and breakfast tacos. Dont mess with my coffee!

All those things sound delicious.
I would gladly do without them if it meant being able to drink coffee and keep my cholesterol low.

Yeah that's right. Coffee is essentially an indispensable part of our mundane life. It doesn't matter if it's espresso, black, or whatever. If you're used to having a couple of glasses each day and then stop because you're concerned with your health, I bet you can't survive.. It has more benefits then downsides. It's not a vice though. Mornings aren't the same without it really.

Well, I think in the manner in which a lot of drink it it could be seen as a vice, but it's not looked upon like tobacco or alcohol.

Caffeine addiction causes headaches when you don't get enough of it. Been there, done that.
