I'm starting this review on a positive note, I love Kona. Kona coffee in my opinion is one of the best in the world, and I'm sure many people would agree.
I was recently sent Fitger's Mild Kona blend from RoastE.com (you can find a link to their site at the bottom of this post) and was asked to review it. As far as Kona blends are concerned, Fitger's has done an excellent job. The sweetness inherit in Kona is brought out well, and balanced against a backdrop of complexity. The nuttiness on the nose is lost on the palate. There is also a delightful caramel accent that holds through from nose to finish, allowing for a sweet finish to balance out the overall bitterness common in a lot of blends. The smokiness is also light, reminiscent of a light roast. Fitger's managed to tone down the bean (and the price) by blending their product. By doing so, a lot of the robust and overwhelming features, typical to many straight Kona blends, are absent. I find this coffee to be a happy middle ground; a good bean at a good price. If you are looking to make your way into Kona and don't want to spend an arm and a leg, I recommend Fitger's Kona blend. Thanks again to the folks at Roaste.com. They also sent me a new Vietnamese Coffee Pot, look for the coming review in the near future. Shop for coffee direct from award-winning coffee roasters | ROASTe |
