I just finished a cup made per the instructions in the post above. It's good but it's not in the same league as the method I've been using. Sorry Aeropress creator If you like a mild but good tasting cup the instructions on the Aero website work just fine. If you like a cup with more flavor- strong but not too strong just pure coffee heaven (no bitter!) give this a try: 14g ground somewhere between drip and espresso fineness (for my grinder it's a bit closer to the espresso size than drip) then fill the aeropress to the top with hot water, put the plunger in place, wait anywhere from 30 to 60 seconds (haven't gone longer than that) and then plunge. Magnificent cup of coffee!

I use beans I roast here at home with the Behmor I study the notes on Sweet Maria's and Roastmasters and buy what looks really special. For the last week or so I've been working my way through an 8oz roast of Kenya Kangunu- a small lot that was sold out in a day or two. I got lucky and snatched 5 pounds when I read the review.

It's an Aeropress.
I came across another method people are using to get a perfect cup with this thing: turn it upside down! Put the plunger in, turn it upside down, add the coffee, add the water, wait, flip and plunge. I'm trying a cup made that way right now and it's excellent. I don't really feel like it's better than the way I've been using the Aeropress but it does stop that initial leak.

One of the guys on a cigar forum put up an Aeropress for trade. I went ahead and snagged it, because I had one in the past and my coffee snobbery just wouldn't allow me to take this thing seriously. I ended up giving it away to a friend of mine. He swears by this thing and now I want one! LOL Such is our coffee madness. So I'm sending him a few cigars and I'm getting the Aeropress in return. I'll let you boys and girls know how she performs.

So, how'd that work out for you, Mike? I got my brother one for Christmas a while back, and he swears by the thing. The coffee out of it is excellent, but I wouldn't consider it significantly better than my French Press- especially not for the amount of beans required.

It makes a fine cup of coffee, but it lacks the body that a French Press does. I compare the cup to vacuum, but a poor man's vacuum cup. I understand the talk around the Aeropress. Guys who love that method like to point their fingers at guys like me who spend thousands on my espresso equipment. I will argue to the end that Aeropress is NOT anything like espresso. I would say that the Aeropress is a cheap way of making vacuum pot type coffee. It's way too small too! I would need to make about 5 of those damn things just to get a decent sized up.
