Now what? I've read about how it's the worst way to make coffee. It came out tasting burnt. Am I doing it wrong?

No, it's supposed to taste that way. How old is your percolater?

Did you clean it out when you got it?

Taking a total guess, 20 years old. I scrubbed it real well. I didn't know if I should use vinegar or not. It seemed to have no mineral deposits. |

Yeah, percolators recirculate the oils through the grounds over and over. I personally cannot take the taste. We use our percolator only to boil the water at a campsite and then add it to cold brewed shots. It tastes 1000 times better.

Growing up my parents drank coffee from a percolator. It taste terrible. It's probably what kept me from enjoying coffee until I was in my late twenties.
