I have to agree that pressed coffee is as good as it gets---------although "Americana" from a good espresso hut can be pretty good sometimes.
I took my first practice run with my new perc this morning at 5:30am. It's a stainless 9 cup Rapid Brew. I know I'm not alone when I state that my mornings are NOT off to a good start until I have a hot cup of coffee in my hands. Well, I should have known better! On my JenAir glass topped stove, it took 13min on high for the pot to start percolating. I then turned it down to medium, which seemed to barely keep perking, and went down the hall to shave. I came back three minutes later to find the perking had sped up, and overflowed the basket and leaked onto the burner. NOT a good situation at 5:45am and still no coffee down my throat. I turned the burner down to low, wiped up the mess and stopped brewing at 8 minutes from the first perk. I poured three cups in my mug, three more in my travel mug for work, and the rest down the drain. I added a touch of milk to the first mug and that helped a little, but my day was off to a bad start for sure. The second mug I sipped on during work, which pretty well ensured my day never improved. Lesson learned. I'm sticking with my press for life-and-death times like 5:30 wakeups, and will tinker my percolator brewing techniques at times when lives aren't at stake. I'm not a quitter, so I'll eventually get this new toy dialed in. It may take a while, but I'm persistent.

Well, in the last dozen days I've had the chance to practice with my new perk, and I'm getting pretty good results. It took some experimenting, and the results still aren't as good as press coffee, but better than drip. I'll keep refining my technique, but I'm mostly dialed in now I think.
