New Dripper
So I bought a new coffee dripper from a guy on another board. It's exactly like this one Tiamo Flat Bottom 3 Hole Ceramic Dripper
The most important part of using these drippers is the even saturation of the grounds. This requires a controlled pour, so I'm thinking about buying a goosenecked tea kettle off ebay. They have some nice looking kettles for about $20. I'm just not looking forward to hearing my wifes response to "More coffee stuff??" coming through the door.

Leave it at work. That's what I do. I have a plastic Melitta I hope to get to take home in the next couple of weeks.

But a kettle can provide sources of hot water for more than just coffee, so I think you're safe here. I am curious about this ceramic drip cup, though, seems like a great method, though would you prefer the manual cup over say a drip machine?

I made coffee with the new dripper this weekend and my wife says "What is that??". I'm thinking she was going to give me grief about more coffee stuff, but this time it was about the color of the dripper. She questioned my masculinity.

I'm really intrigued by this dripper, do you guys think it provides a different experience over a machine that does the same thing? It seems like the manual pour could provide some issues.
I'd like to share this drip experience with you all, maybe you can provide your own insights into the matter!
I'm wondering if the ceramic dripper can yield a more thorough brew.

It depends on the drip as to whether it does the same thing.
Also, the hot plate does have a bit to play with it. Temp that it gets brewed at is inconsequential if the plate is to hot.
One of the tricks I sue to off set the heat and initial burn is adding water to pot before I start brewing.

Being an espresso junkie, I'm in the habit of pre-heating my cups. In this case I pre-heat the dripper too. Just fill the dripper with hot water and let it drip into the cup. It also helps to wet down the filter, so it sticks to the dripper. Your grind will determine how fast/slow the dripper will drip. You don't want to go too fine, because you run the risk of over-extraction. The problem with most garden variety coffee makers is that they dont get water hot enough. The second problem is that the shower heads don't evenly soak the grounds. This means you're over-extracted in one spot and under-extracted in another spot. The manual pour allows an even soak, which produces a better cup.
Now dripper coffee doesn't have the body that french press does. The silt and oils in french press give it more body and produce a more pungent cup of coffee. That's just my two cents of cours.
